We’re thrilled to announce that Let Her Play has been selected as one of the 2025 winners of the ESPN Take Back Sports Innovation Challenge!
With support from ESPN, we’re launching our “Playing the Long Game” Matching Initiative to build a larger network of female coaches and mentors in girls’ youth sports programs.
74% of youth coaches are men.
Sports & Fitness Industry Association and the 2022 National Coach Survey
Let Her Play will leverage our growing network of collegiate and early-career female athlete volunteers and match them to a youth program in their geography as an “assistant coach.”
We feel this initiative has the potential to solve a number of issues:
Providing the “match” in the mentor / coach that girls want to see to stay inspired and involved in sports
Filling the need for additional assistant coaches in youth sports
Offering a “give-back” opportunity to young women who feel sports has been a major contributor to their life success to date, but in a “bite-sized” way that does not overwhelm them as they enter the working world
Playing the long game - exposing young women to youth sports coaching, so they feel more prepared to take a larger role in youth sports coaching later in life
Stay Tuned … We’ll launch in Boston this fall!
